The enchanting Lava-rock pools of Porto Moniz are located on the northwest part of Madeira (Madeira is an archipelago owned by Portugal – situated just about 700 kilometers west off the shore line of Morocco). Madeira archipelago are a group of volcanic islands which has several natural Pools created when lava flow met the Atlantic Ocean many years ago. The little town of Porto Moniz is a popular tourist attraction there is a small aquarium and a science museum but the main attraction is a refreshing swim in the  Lava-rock Natural pools. Porto Moniz is about a 50 minute drive from Funchal –  the roads never get to much traffic, it is a small island.
