Mount Fuji is located west of Tokyo in Honshu (the main island of Japan it is visible from Tokyo on a clear day). It is the tallest mountain and active volcano in Japan, its last eruption was recorded in the early 18th century. This mountain is a well-known landmark in Japan and also one of Japan’s three holy mountains. Many popular touristic sites are to be found around Fuji mountain including shrines Lakes and hot springs. The mountain is the subject of many poems, paintings, stories and other artworks throughout the ages. The mountain is on the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Japan. The mountain is usually covered in snow for almost six months during every year (November to May).
